South Maroubra made Branch history at the recent Nippers Branch Carnival held a Maroubra. Whilst poor surf conditions meant that water events were cancelled, nothing was going to cancel the announcement of the Sydney Branch Junior Lifesaver of the Year award! The cancelled water events meant that, according to Danny Said, Mayor of Randwick, the ceremony had drawn the biggest crowd he had seen for the presentation of the award. Other dignitaries in attendance were George Shales OAM, President of SLS NSW; Peter Agnew ESM, President of Sydney Branch and Doug Hawkins, Director of Nippers for SLS Sydney.
Noah Teitler, our current Junior Club Captain was one of twelve finalists for the award. As Doug explained on the day, nominees had to first apply via an application, and then the downselected finalists were interviewed in front of a panel of five - representing different aspects of Sydney Branch. Sydney Branch covers 15 Surf Lifesaving Clubs from Nth Bondi to the Royal National Park - two of the biggest Surf Lifesaving Clubs in Australia and three of the smallest - with around 6,500 Nippers. We are pleased to announce that Noah won the prestigious award and now is representing Sydney Branch at the State awards to be determined in March. Noah's older sister Sarah Teitler Junior Club Captain in 2018/19 won the female award that year. The siblings make Sydney Branch history as no other siblings have ever won the award! Congratulations to the Teitler family and good luck Noah at State!
