Our Nippers and Senior club members competed at the Sydney Branch Championships over the weekend 5-6 February. Despite the weather and conditions, which saw all water events moved to Yarra Bay, it looks like everyone had a bit of fun!

(see flyer in this publication) Club and Ocean Swim Sponsorship. Our club is a fantastic club on the back of its members and sponsors who contribute funding in support of all areas of operation. Whether it's nipper boards, rescue equipment, tents, boats, club bus and so on, much is donated. Recently our club lost one of its major sponsors after the company entered merger talks. This leaves a major gap in our funding - so we’re reaching out to each one of you, as many of you are associated with large reputable companies, for a leg up! Major sponsors come in the form of $10k plus annually, so if you can ask around or perhaps you are an executive or part of a senior management team, do your bit to keep our club and this community strong! Oh yeah, with our very popular Ocean Swim approaching in April we’re still on the hunt for a Naming Rights Sponsor @ $5k. Great opportunity to get your name blasted on the day but also in all forms of social media promoting and informing participants as we approach event day. Plenty of positives so please feel free to come forward by emailing [email protected] Club Competition, we are now in full training for what is going to be a very busy next couple of months leading up to State Age Championships for Nippers and State Titles for seniors followed by Australian Titles in Queensland. We encourage all of our competitors to get stuck right into training to give yourself every opportunity to do the best you can at these major sporting events. Congratulations to our SRC and Bronze Squads that have completed or undertaking their courses. Our future is secure with such great lifesavers coming through. Thank you to our band of Instructors led by Hunter for their commitment, and hoping to increase our instructor numbers. See your Patrol Captain, Hunter or Nicole to get a little more involved in Education. Sunday Socials and event bookings. We’ve had some great Social Sundays which continue every Sunday 11am to 5pm to the end of April and plenty of private hire bookings within our Heritage Lounge which accommodates all types of parties up to 120 people. Whether it’s a more casual wedding, birthday parties (excluding 18ths and 21st) there’s no better private location to have your event. Special booking rates apply to members so take advantage of this opportunity. More information on our website under the heading of FUNCTIONS. SLSNSW Covid Policy requires all members aged 13 years and older who are undertaking Frontline Volunteer Activities which include all roles on patrols, surf sports competitors, coaches and officials, support services roles, UAV pilots, Age Managers, as well as Trainers/Assessors and Facilitators must be fully vaccinated against COVID19. Nippers not performing SRC duties whilst not required to be vaccinated along with parents assisting (excluding water safety and age mangers) are encouraged to be vaccinated. Some strict exemptions apply. Remember when attending any SLS event including carnivals, evidence of vaccination may be required to be produced plus RAT may be required. A personal message from Barry and Lesley our caretakers, please do your bit to look after the club. It could be as simple as keeping toilets clean after use, washing feet of sand before entering the club, including the gymnasium, such as putting weights away after use. Barry has said, if it's not ok at home then it's not ok at your club! Please keep up to date on all the big issues by joining our South Maroubra Surf Club and Nipper FACEBOOK sites or call our office manager Michelle in the office on 93140070 Tuesday or Friday. [email protected] Look forward to seeing you at our Fitness Class, Social Sundays, Sportspersons Day or Carnivals! Plenty happening At South Maroubra SLSC! Paul ‘Stretch’ Fownes APM OAM President The Club is happy to promote sponsor services, reputable small businesses and services, housemates or marketplace type free giveaways etc. If you would like to have a listing in next month's Blu-ing please email [email protected]. Lost & Found There is a lost property box in the club office that is brimming with towels, bags, t-shirts, shoes etc. If you have left anything around the club it is likely to be there. To our wonderful nipper families, Happy New Year! I hope you all have had a wonderful break and are looking forward to kicking on with some fabulous nipper sessions. We finished 2021 with a bang with the Xmas Scramble. Lots of fun on the day with Santa paying a special visit, lollies, popcorn & fairy floss for the nippers, christening of our new club bus, afternoon band chills and plenty of cold drinks with our nipper families. A fantastic afternoon was had by all.
Competition touring team training camp During the holidays we held a touring team training day camp. The weather was not on our side however that did not stop our athletes. Water competitors were moved to Malabar with the U9’s being the first to utilise the club bus, the U10-U14’s took a run along the headland, followed by a 2 hour water session and a run back to South Maroubra. Sand competitors stayed at South Maroubra perfecting their sprints & flag techniques. All competitors joined together again for lunch and a motivational talk by guest speaker Matt White, professional cyclist and coach of Commonwealth Games gold medalist walker Jane Seville. Big shout out to all of the coaches, water safety and parent helpers for running such a great day. As we reach the pointy end of the competition side of nippers, our athletes have been training hard with 3 weeks left until the NSW State Junior Surf Life Saving Championships. This year we have a team of 151 competing at State. I wish them all the very best of luck. Annual Nipper Touring Team Trivia fundraiser On Friday 28th January 2022, the Annual Nipper Touring Team trivia fundraiser was held at Horizons. Thank you to all of our generous sponsors for all of the fantastic prizes that were up for grabs. We raised $7000 that will go towards the touring team’s gear, presentation dinner & training day camp. Our fabulous sponsors included: Helpers required
A friendly reminder to all parents who bring their children down to nippers every Sunday and who participate in this invaluable program, please remember that this program is solely run by VOLUNTEERS. Everyone from the Board of Management, Age Managers, Water Safety, Beach Crew, Coaches are all volunteers and run this great program for the benefit of your children. Our aim is to teach our children life skills, social skills, and most importantly to have FUN. I know that we can all appreciate this in this ever changing environment and when we are dealing with changing surf conditions, sometimes the program will not run as efficiently as we would all like it to. Please be patient with your Age Managers, Beach Crew and water safety. They are running this program to the best of their ability and most importantly are keeping our children safe. As they say, many hands make light work. I encourage you to get involved and be a part of delivering this great program. To be a part of the Beach Crew, please complete the following steps:
We thank you for joining the South Maroubra Nippers program and look forward to working with you if you would like to join our volunteers. I welcome any feedback anytime. You can email me directly on [email protected]. Don’t forget to stay updated and ‘like’ the South Maroubra SLSC Nippers facebook page. See you all on the beach. #WeareSthBra Peter Kondilios Director of Youth
