As the season kicks off again, a reminder to all renewing members that Memberships must be renewed (preferably online) by 1 October, otherwise you membership will be archived.

With the renovation of the bar and the club house during the off-season we have had more and more interest in hiring the BK Lounge for events. This is available to members (at a discounted rate), if you are interested please contact that the office or via email [email protected]

One such event will be the hosting of the NRL Grand Final. Gus Taylor our licensee appointed manager will be hosting an event from 3pm on the 2nd of October.  see the Facebook post for more details including prizes to be won! 

Sunday Socials is an opportunity to spend some time down at the club and enjoy the company of your fellow club members, the wonderful view. The Bar is open from 11am and the BBQ is available for members if you want to supply your own food.

To support all the activity down at the club, we are looking for members that hold an RSA to send their expressions of interest to the office if they would like to work behind the bar. We have events during the week and on the weekends as well as on Sundays. There will also be an information session on Sunday 25 September from 12-1pm.

Finally, a reminder to all members not to park past the bollards. The area is restricted to authorised people only. Similar the rescue only parking is available only for those listed on Patrol for that day with a valid parking permit.

Competition Season

This will be an informative session for the coming summer season covering:

• Carnival calendar and communication
• State & Australian Titles information and planning.

Warilla Bowls Series - Sydney Branch Surf Boat Series
We are hosting the Warilla Bowls Series in conjunction with the Sydney Branch Surf Boat Series @ South Maroubra Surf Club on Saturday 12 th November @ 0600 am.
Calling on helpers / workforce for the day to help with the set-up. Greg Morris, Phil Stivano and Shane White will be coordinating the day with information to follow.

Well what a vibe we created for our 2nd year of the 24 Hour Row supporting mental health and fitness.  The Heritage Room September 10 and 11 was the place to be and the venue provided great warmth for this years event! To our members and families who supported this great cause by either donating or rowing, we can not thank you enough. One again the surf club family did not disappoint!
 
Some highlights were:

• Over 830,000 metres rowed – 67 rowers – 4 ergs
• We raised over $5,000 for Gotcha4Life
• Joe Doyle – Marathon 3.30 hours
• Jordan Perez – Marathon in 3 hours after returning from Europe one week prior
• Nick Mellick – celebrating his mums 70th birthday and then 3 hours later backing up for a Marathon row in 3 hours
• 13 year old nipper Aidan Renford rowed 10,000 metres
• Group of nippers and parents rowing for an hour on 4 ergs and managed to collectively row 40,000 metres
• 4 Life Members rowing for an hour each
• Top metres within the hour by Noah Simpkins 14,812
• High percentage of female participants – go the girls!
• Nipper involvement
• The ‘families’ who participated
• Master ski paddlers backing up for year 2 of the row
• The overnight shift rowers – thank you – that’s a tough one
• The support of the Board and Caretakers Barry & Lesley

Well members the wait is over! Patrol Flags are up for this season starting this weekend and what a season in store for all of us! I'm so looking forward to seeing our Lifesavers back on patrol, equipped with the latest lifesaving gear then, in two Sundays time, Australia's biggest nipper group returns to South Maroubra beach.

So you ask what have we got planned and what have we been up to? Here's a quick snap shot! 

• Our club is acknowledging the efforts in the off season by our IRB competitors who did outstandingly well coming third in NSW. We're putting on refreshments for them Saturday night in acknowledgment of their efforts and look forward to other members coming on board.
• We are expanding our storage capacity with the arrival of a new storage container.
• Over the off season our club house externally has had extensive refurbishments and full repaint to ensure it's ship-shape for start of season.
• Also over the off season we've rebuilt our club bar and repainted rooms to ensure members enjoy our many social events including Social Sundays and your private parties on Friday, Saturday nights. Club hire enquiries to [email protected]
• You may have noticed on Facebook we've looked after our country cousins from Dubbo-West, Dubbo-South, Narromine and Port Macquarie Clontarf Foundation boys! Providing accommodation and dinners each visit. So proud we can help these indigenous kids on their rare trip to Sydney!
• Captain Phil in the Surf Boat section has put a call out for members between 16 and 35 to come join one of the most exciting surf sports. There's still time to register your interest, simply call Phil on 0407072584
• The club is keen to recruit some additional bar staff for occasional private Function work and Sunday Socials. Looking for those wishing to be paid or simply looking to help the club our as a volunteer, ideal for retired people. Email [email protected]  
• Also for retired or semi-retired members, looking for some help in relation to managing function enquiries, staffing and other bar related matters. Need an interest now things on the work front have slowed down, had some experience in the hospitality industry? Let us know by sending an email to [email protected] 
• Congrats to our Bronze Squad going through this Sunday and well done to the many people joining our lifesaving ranks.
• To all of our Nippers, please remember parking will be tight in our limited parking spots, we're working with Council to open Broadarrow Reserve for Nipper Sundays. Also to Nippers, construction by Council on the new park amenities block just to the side of our club starts 10/10 so please be careful. 

That's about it for now, I thank all the volunteers and Board of Management that all give so much to our great club.
