Yours faithfully, Nicole Cooney Hon Secretary 18 June 2018 AGM Notice Letter Nomination Form Life member nomination - Grant Rutherford Honour Blazer nomination - Ronny Krite It is a great honour to be receiving the 2018 Sydney Champion Surf Life Saving Club Award with so many iconic Clubs within Sydney.
South Maroubra SLSC has a proud history of community, participation and diversity. We encourage innovation and value the contribution of ‘everyone’ in our club from the most mature to our youth. Providing a volunteer lifesaving service on one of Sydney’s most popular beaches is a constant but rewarding challenge for our membership as is developing our youth whilst helping them and their families better understand the features and risks of surf. Our club has been operating now for nearly 60 years and maintains a special place within our community. Our thanks are extended to the entire South Maroubra family, friends and supporters over our existence, in particular Maroubra Seals Club, Randwick City Council and The Juniors Club along with Michael Daley MP and Matthew Thistlethwaite MP who have provided ongoing and unconditional support . We hope to continue to build our wonderful club, our sponsorship base and welcome everyone and anyone who would like to contribute towards a healthy and vibrant voluntary community service.

As you would be aware, Ken Murphy was one the founding members of our surf club who came over from Malabar. Ken was Club Captain of the surf club from 1968 - 1970 and Captain of the Dolphins Winter Swimming Club from 1961-1969. He will be missed by his family and friends. Ken is the brother our Life Member Max Murphy. Our thoughts and sympathy are extended to the Murphy family at this time. The service for Ken will be held at the Wollongong City Memorial Gardens Unanderra Friday 11/5/18. 10:30am This weekend saw the end to another successful season, with no lives lost between the flags. We saw the last of our trainees go through assessment gaining IRBC and IRBD awards. Thank you to all those who helped keep the beach safe over the 2017/18 season. A massive thanks to all our trainers whose countless hours of training put more than 40 new lifesavers on the beach as well as up-skilling current lifesavers.
The lifesaving season may be over but next weekend we see our IRB competitors start their racing season. We wish you the best of luck! We look forward to seeing all our lifesavers back for the 2018/19 season. Remember to mark you calendars for Presentation Night on 28 July!
