The South Maroubra IRB section recently sent 22 competitors to State Championship at South West Rocks and after the 2 days with perfect conditions we ended up with hauling in the bling with ..
After a 2 weeks break they then head down the coast to Mollymook for the Australian Championship for a 4 days carnival. The first two days saw some challenging conditions with a strong eastly swell of up to 5-6ft then the last 2 days improved to some beautiful conditions with a slight westly wind helping with a strong current along the shore line. After the team being batted and bruised they ended up with an Australian Silver medal in the Open male teams and a 3rd place for NSW in the inter-state, where our very own Tara, Kai and Will came first in the male mass and first in the open teams.

As advised to the membership in July, South Maroubra will be participating in the 24HR Row again this season, a chance for our community to come together to row and raise funds for mental fitness.
We want to create a memorable, family/team atmosphere with spectators and participants cheering on the rowers, with music, laughter and fun. To get involved – register to row for 60 minutes or just donate to the cause. We have a team/club fundraising page set up with Gotcha4Life website portal. All funds raised go back into communities including our local community. Gotcha4Life deliver presentations, workshops and training to help end suicide. 7 males and 2 females every day attempt suicide. With the generosity of rowers and supporters Gotcha4Life can continue to engage, education and empower to end suicide. On Saturday 2nd July the club was represented at the Sydney Branch celebration lunch at our very own Horizons venue for what was a wonderful few hours.
A fabulous lunch by Top Cat and entertainment from Amber Lawrence followed by a panel of guest speakers who shared some insight of their journey over the past 41 years – 93 year old Joan Vaughan was the absolute highlight of the day. After the formalities there was much reminiscing and catching up while we were entertained further by the band Soulganic. Great day and thank you to the Club for inviting 16 wonderful South Maroubra female lifesaving legends to attend the day. Congratulations to all past and present Women in Surf Life Saving – special shout out to our South Maroubra pioneers who have paved the way to where we are today. Hello again members, I trust our first Newsletter of the new season finds you well as we power towards the start of activities in September for Lifesaving and October for Nippers. Can I start this newsletter by congratulating our newest and most deserving Life Member, Cathy Hall and Honour Blazer recipient Carl Briscoe plus a big thank you to all incoming and quality Office-bearers for season 22/23, the response to vacant positions was just tremendous with only one or two positions still needing to be filled. The intention as we lead into the season will be to complete high level committee preparation meetings which over the next month or two which will flow through to sub committees, ensuring everyone is properly briefed in regards to roles and responsibilities and key dates to ensure our club is ready to ramp up activities as we transition into the new season. Brief Update.
A highlight of the trip for not only the kids but also us staff members was the tour of LaPerouse and the surrounding area that Stretch took us on. His knowledge of the area was second to none and something the boys will hold onto for a lifetime. I really can't put into words how great your wonderful caretakers are. Barry and Leslie made us feel like we were a part of their own family, so much so that the boys were saying they hope Uncle Baz and Aunty Les would remember them the next time they are in the city. Once again we can't thank you guys enough for everything the Surf club and Seals Club did for us. Being able to stay at Surf clubs like yours gives our foundation the opportunity to give our boys a once in a lifetime experience that they would normally not get. I would love to continue to build the relationship with the Surf club and our academy so if there is anything we can do for you guys please let us know and we look forward to visiting again in the future. Big shout out to all the competitors heading up to the Gold Coast for the 2022 Aussies. It is the club's biggest contingent that we have seen for many years and we wish them all the best of luck in their respective events .. Go hard and do us proud!
The 2022 NSW State Titles were started yet not completed this year due to the once in a lifetime weather event. Due to poor water quality and the guidance from NSW Health, the organisers made the hard decision to cancel this year’s events, breaking the hearts of many.
The Iron Person events were the first and only events to be held with some age groups being completed and others through to finals. 2 strong and deserving results from South Maroubra.
The sand events were cancelled very early with no results to report. Thank you to all of support crew involved to make this happen in trying conditions…. We now move onto the Australian Titles in Queensland from 2nd - 10th April. The event is split between beaches with the Youth Championship being held at North Kirra and the Open Championship at Broadbeach. We are taking a strong team of 65 competitors this year, the largest team for quite some time. It is the first time the Under 13’s and 14’s will be experiencing a national title which will be an exciting prospect for them to compete at the highest level of the sport. Thanks to all of the team behind the scenes for the hard work involved in making this possible and the support of the Board of Management. All the best to all of our competitors hoping you all have a smooth and healthy lead in. We have 2 last carnivals before Nationals to fine tune:
